Simple Games to Play

Whether to get the fun started or to transition from one activity to another, using these fun and simple games will keep the tots entertained and stimulated.

Hangman - White board, dry erase markers, and some imagniation.  I use book/movie titles!

Duck, Duck, GOOSE! - A really easy circle game, no props, just fun!

Librarian Says... - Like Simon says, except you're the librarian.

Hot potato - With this game, I have no losers.  If the music stops, and you are holding the "potato" get up and do a little dance, and then join back in with the fun!

Picnic memory game - This is a fun memory game that requires no props.  It starts out with the librarian who says "I am going on a picnic, and in my basket I am going to bring..." ie. apples. Then it goes around in a circle, and the next child says, "I am going on a picnic, and in my basket I am going to bring..." the child adds another item, ie. bananas, but also brings the previous item(s), "AND apples."  It goes on where each child after adds their own item and remembers all the previous items in the basket.

The listening game - Have the children look at a collection of different items, and then take them away. Next, ask the children to close their eyes and listen as you pick up an item and make sounds with it. Ask the children to guess which item made the sound. Examples of items might be a comb (run your fingers along it), a glass (gently tap it), cymbals, shakers, sandpaper, blocks rubbed together, a pot and spoon, etc...
